Scottish Government Proposes to Licence Airguns

Proposals by the Scottish Government to license all low powered airguns in Scotland and to ban people plinking in their own gardens are still on the table. Furthermore the Scottish Government proposes to demand that English and Welsh shooters apply for visitor permits before taking their airguns to Scotland.

BASC has voiced its opposition to these proposals however they may still go ahead.  A public consultation on the proposals closes on 15 March. If you wish to voice your opinions then visit the BASC website for more details on how to do so.

Home Affairs Committee Recommends Partner Checks

Theresa May has backed a potential move to require that applicants for Firearm Certificates provide evidence that their partners support their application. The move is described as being motivated by attempts to reduce Violent Crime and restrict those with a propensity of domestic violence from accessing Firearms.

Initial proposals backing this action were recommended in 2010 but were rejected. It appears that the government has revised its position and is reconsidering the move.

New Fair for Deer Stalkers

On the 23-24 March the Borders Union Agricultural Society Showground is set to host a new Deer Stalking Fair with approaching fifty deer stalking related exhibitors over the two day event.
