Romain Jerome has unveiled its first pilot’s watch, an unusual trapezium-shaped timepiece aptly named the Spacecraft.
Its retro-futuristic style is reminiscent of MB&F’s HM5 ‘On the Road Again’ we saw at the end of last year, yet the experimental Swiss watch brand has put its own twist on the concept with this angular and edgy design.
The Spacecraft is a joint venture between Romain Jerome CEO Manuel Emch and two of the top names in the watch business, designer Eric Giroud (the man that is also behind the case of HM5) and movement maker Jean-Marc Wiederrecht. The exclusive self-winding calibre at the heart of the watch was developed in Wiederrecht’s Geneva-based manufacturing facility Agenhor, and combines a linear retrograde jumping hour with a dragging minutes indication. Perhaps counterintuitively, the hour is displayed in red on the side of the timepiece, while a flick of the wrist is required to read the minutes from the rotating disk on top. However, this watch is all about form over functionality, with its slick lines and stylish plated titanium case.
The Spacecraft comes on a black polyamide mesh strap and will be produced in a limited run of 99. The watch will retail at SFr.21,900.
