The Capreolus Club is delighted to be hosting an auction for the unique 'Malkin head' Muntjac Trophy, a first of its kind.
While guiding a member of the 'Capreolus Club' in Hampshire, during an outing deer stalking, esteemed and highly experienced verifier and deer stalking guide, Tony Malkin, encountered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Little did he know that the buck he was guiding the member on to, would turn out to be a first of its kind and the largest Muntjac head ever seen. Upon approaching the muntjac post-shot, both guide and client admired the extraordinary head in awe.
Like the 'Bailey' Roebuck heads, which are found exclusively in England and are considered unofficial world records, albeit not considered official trophies by the CIC, the 'Malkin Head' Muntjac Trophy holds a similarly unique status. Discovered by Peter Bailey in the 1970s, Bailey Roebuck heads are exceptionally rare, with only around 30 recorded to date. In this spirit, the 'Capreolus Club' has named this trophy the 'Malkin Head' in honour of Tony Malkin, the guide who discovered it, thereby acknowledging his contribution to our community.
Through 'County Deer Stalking', the 'Capreolus Club' wishes to present its readers with a unique and exceptional opportunity, to own this unique piece. The reserve price for this exclusive auction is set at £300-00.
The 'Malkin Head' has been prominently featured by Tom Douglas, a former BASC trophy measurer and top taxidermist, during the new Trophy Evaluation Masterclass delivered via the 'Shooting and Hunting Academy', highlighting the trophy's significance and desirability.
“This is a very special Muntjac, shot local to me and is absolutely huge. If you mirror-imaged the standard side and flipped it, the score would beat the British record. As a malform, I think it is an absolutely fantastic trophy.” Tom Douglas
The head (shown above) is already mounted on a shield and the lower jaw comes with it as well.
The dimensions are as follows:
- The right tine is 13cms long measured from the top of the coronet and has two points
- The left tine is 9.5cms long measured from the top of the coronet and has five points. At its widest point it is 4.5cms wide.
- There are 7 points on the antlers.
