Talking Stalking

This past week saw BASC hold their ‘Talking Stalking’ evening at Berkshire College of Agriculture.

Talking Stalking 555

The event was well attended and speakers included Sam Walker from BASC South West, Jamie Cordery from the ‘Deer Initiative’ and our very own James Mott from County Deer Stalking.

Berkshire College of Agriculture near Maidenhead was a cracking choice of venue for the event and first speaker Sam kicked off the evening in the grand, principle hall of this former stately home.

Sam touched on the BASC trophy measuring service, which is fast becoming the UK’s most popular head measuring service and also provided detail of the current four BASC stalking schemes that are now available to its members. BASC have been working hard of late to create opportunities for new stalkers to gain practical experience in a safe and well supervised environment, and it seems that these schemes are increasing in number and variety, since the first introduction of their pilot scheme in Arran.

Jamie Cordery from the 'Deer Initiative' was up next and presented a highly informed talk about the spread of deer throughout the UK, disease and the basic principles of deer management, before our own James Mott followed with a look at the responsibilities of the stalking community to stand united and present itself in a professional manner. Something that is undoubtedly crucial in avoiding negative publicity from an often ill-informed media.

The event provided a breadth of information that will have been of benefit to both novice and experienced stalker alike.

As well as hearing from the speakers, attendees were also invited to browse a number of trade stands including Swarovski Optik, Harkila and Viking Arms.

Overall a great evening and we hope to see more of these type of events from BASC, in the months to come.
