The course builds on foundational knowledge from the LANTRA-approved Proficient Deer Stalking Certificate Level 1 (PDS1), specifically its Scotland Module, and expands into critical areas unique to the Highlands.
The course covers topics such as understanding the distinct nature of Highland stalking, safety, legal requirements, deer species identification, extraction techniques, and practical guidance on taking the shot. Beyond foundational skills, the HDSC1 provides discussions on topics like hill etiquette, gear recommendations, rifle and calibre selection, wind management, shooting at elevation, and common mistakes to avoid. Participants will also receive expert advice on planning their trip, choosing the right time to visit, and booking their hunting experience.
