May is one of the most exciting months to be deer stalking.

This month, before going on to take a look at what the month ahead has in store, I hope that you will forgive me if I draw your attention to something a bit special.

Through County Deer Stalking’s official members club – the Capreolus Club, we have re-launched the PLUS scheme, which I believe now provides dedicated hunters with arguably the finest deer stalking & hunting scheme anywhere in the UK and Europe.

The club’s re-launched scheme, now offers simple 'Book-and-Go' Deer Stalking for all six of the UK's deer species on both an unaccompanied and a guided basis, with just 24 hours-notice, 365 days a year over a huge 22,000 acres of beautiful countryside, in a variety of locations around the south east of England.

What is more, the scheme now also provides unrivalled hunting in Europe, over a vast 100,000 acres of beautiful Croatian & Slovenian wilderness. Where members have unlimited Guided or Unaccompanied hunting for some of the most diverse and exciting game anywhere in Europe, ranging from Wild Boar, Wolf, Brown Bear and Mouflon to Red Stag and Roebuck.

Once on the scheme ALL stalk outings, whether guided or unaccompanied, are included as part of your annual subscription.

If you are serious about your hunting, this well thought out scheme deserves some serious consideration. We’d be delighted to hear from any readers of the almanac who would like to consider joining the club and taking part. On to the month ahead, which due to the fact that most deer species save Roe and Muntjac are now protected, can leave a good number of stalkers twiddling their thumbs and in search of an alternative pursuit during the summer months.

Not so for those who are fortunate enough to have Roe on their ground. In contrast, for Roe stalkers, May is one of the most exciting months to be stalking deer. Not only is it a glorious time to be out in the countryside, but the Roebuck are also in somewhat of a frenzy of activity, as they cajole and hustle to establish a hierarchy, which leaves lesser bucks ejected from their former home territories where they had been tolerated, and sends them like scolded teenagers out to the peripheries, to spend their days skulking around kicking cans and complaining about being left out of the action.

It’s an exciting month to be Roe stalking and in just a few days-time we will be hosting our ‘Roebuck Madness’ event, which along with the PLUS scheme, is another very good reason to consider membership of the Capreolus Club.
