Founded in 1897 by Frederick Richard Simms the Royal Automobile Club is one of the foremost private members’ clubs in the world and was yet another, in a long line of private members club’s that have played host to the London-based deer stalking and large game hunting club.

The club's Christmas event was a fantastic finale to what has been another eventful year for the Capreolus Club, which started with an original 14 members but now, just three years on, boasts over 120.

The success of the club is no surprise. A brief look back at what the Capreolus Club has been up to during 2018 reveals a catalogue of exciting events and trips including frequent ‘Complimentary Stalk Days’ at the club’s exclusive grounds in Sussex, trips to the Highlands of Scotland for Reds and a private jet to the Orkneys for Goose. An ‘Over-night triple’ in Oxford, a ‘Roebuck Calling Event’, ‘Gralloching and Butchery Master Classes’, ‘Long range shoot days’ at both Bisley and Horsham, ‘Indoor shooting at the cinema range at Holland & Holland’ and ‘Driven bird shooting at the glorious Newington house.

The club has also held its annual ‘Woodland stalker challenge’, it has done a terrific deal with the NRA at Bisley, taken on new stalking grounds in Wiltshire, Sussex, Surrey and Cambridgeshire, attracted prestigious sponsors in the form of ‘John Rigby Gunmakers’ and ‘Swarovski Optik’ and held other social events at Dunhill and the East India Club.

Not only this, but during 2018 the club’s membership has swollen by as many as 30 new members. To reflect the growing abilities of its members, this year the Capreolus Club also initiated the superb unaccompanied PLUS scheme that allows members to simply book and go stalking with just 24hrs notice, a scheme that has been a great success and one which the club is looking to extend and enhance in 2019.

It has been a great year, and this has been in no small part due to the efforts of the team and its stalkers Luis, James, Justin, Peter, Geoff & Clive.

During the evening club Chairman Peter Jones thanked members for their support during 2018 and spoke confidently of the club’s ability to go from strength to strength in 2019.
